Pre-migration audit
Our team reviews your Tally data structure — chart of accounts, party masters, custom voucher types, and ledger groups. We flag anything unusual before we touch your books.
Backup your Tally company file
You share a Tally backup .tcb file (or screen-share a live export). We never touch your live company until you have signed off the trial balance.
Master data import
Chart of accounts, party masters, product/service catalogue, opening balances, GSTINs, and tax rates — fully migrated and validated against your Tally totals.
Historical transactions import
Sales, purchases, journals, receipts, payments, and contras for your chosen historical window. Full voucher numbering preserved end-to-end.
Inventory & stock import
Item masters, batches, opening stock, location-wise quantities. Multi-godown setups carry over verbatim. FIFO/weighted-average costing recreated.
Trial balance reconciliation
Side-by-side comparison of every ledger between your Tally TB and the AskBooks TB. Discrepancies are reconciled before any sign-off.
CA review & sign-off
Your CA gets free access for the entire migration. They review the imported books, validate compliance, and sign off in writing before go-live.
Cutover & go-live
A final delta migration captures any vouchers booked during review. You log into AskBooks the same day with everything in place.

TDL customisations
Tally Definition Language is proprietary and runs only inside Tally. Most TDL features have native AskBooks equivalents — we rebuild them during onboarding.
Printer-specific templates
Tally print templates target dot-matrix and pre-printed stationery. AskBooks ships modern PDF templates which our team customises to your branding.
Tally Audit logs
Internal audit history stays in Tally as your historical record. AskBooks starts a fresh, immutable audit trail from go-live.
Macros and hot keys
Keyboard shortcuts are different. We provide a one-page cheat sheet so power users feel at home within a day.

FAQ
Migration questions, answered
Will my GST history transfer?
Yes. All sales, purchases, and tax credits flow into AskBooks with original voucher numbers and dates preserved. Past GSTRs already filed in the GST portal stay there — AskBooks picks up cleanly from your chosen cutover date.
Do I have to stop using Tally during migration?
No. You keep using Tally as your live system until cutover. We do a final delta import to capture any vouchers you booked during the review window, then you switch over the same day.
What if my opening balances do not match?
They will. Trial balance reconciliation is a mandatory step — we do not proceed to CA sign-off until every ledger matches your Tally TB to the rupee.
Can my CA review the migrated books?
Yes, free of cost. We invite your CA to a dedicated review workspace where they can compare every ledger, run reports, and sign off before go-live.
How long does migration take for a typical SME?
For most SMEs (1-3 GSTINs, under 10,000 vouchers/year), the active migration takes 25 minutes. With audit, reconciliation, and CA review, the full cycle is typically 2-4 working days.
What happens to my Tally licence?
It stays yours. We recommend keeping Tally read-only for at least 90 days as a fallback reference. After that, most customers stop renewing their TSS.
Do you migrate inventory batches and expiry dates?
Yes. Batch numbers, manufacturing dates, expiry dates, and batch-wise stock levels migrate fully. Pharma and FMCG operators rely on this — we do not skip any of it.
Is there a guarantee?
If we cannot reconcile your trial balance after migration, you pay nothing and we help you roll back to Tally. We have not had to invoke this clause yet.
