About AskBooks
We're building accounting software for the way India actually does business.
Tally was built for the desktop PC era. Zoho Books was built for the American freelancer. Neither was built for the way Indian SMEs run — bilingual, WhatsApp-first, GST-bound, often without stable internet. AskBooks is.
Why we built this
Indian SMEs deserve software designed for India
Indian small businesses run on three things — paper khata books, Tally on a Windows PC, and a million WhatsApp messages. None of these talk to each other. None of them think in Hindi or Tamil. None of them understand GST e-invoice as a first-class concept. None of them work offline on 2G when the power cuts and the internet drops.
We started AskBooks to fix exactly that. Not by porting an American product into India, and not by adding a Hindi toggle to legacy desktop software — but by building a fresh, cloud-native accounting platform from the ground up, for the realities of Indian business.
That means GST e-invoice as an authorised GSP partner. Twelve Indian languages, switchable mid-session. WhatsApp-native invoicing. Free CA access. AI bank reconciliation trained on Indian bank statements. Native iOS and Android. Offline-tolerant. Fairly priced.
What we believe
Our principles
Customer-obsessed
Every product decision starts with: what would a kirana shopkeeper, a CA managing 50 clients, or a small distributor actually want? We build for real Indian businesses — not for product awards or investor decks.
India-first, not India-adapted
GST returns, mandi rates, retention money, FCRA, 80G receipts — built native from day one, not bolted on as afterthoughts. We understand Indian business because we run our books the same way you do.
Open by default
Public REST API, full data export as Excel or PDF, no vendor lock-in. If you ever decide to leave, we will help you export your data on the way out. We earn loyalty by being good — not by trapping you.
Quality over velocity
Your books are the foundation of your business. We ship slow and correct, not fast and broken. Every release goes through automated tests, security review, and CA-led validation before it reaches you.
