What GST rate applies to medicines?
GST rates on medicines vary: Life-saving drugs and certain essential medicines are at 5% GST. Most branded drugs and OTC medicines are at 12% GST. Some generics listed in essential medicines list are at nil GST. Medical devices attract 12% GST. AskBooks has pre-configured GST rates for medicines using HSN codes — you don't need to manually assign rates.
How does Schedule H/H1 compliance work at the POS?
When a Schedule H or H1 drug is added to the cart, AskBooks prompts the cashier to enter the doctor's name, registration number, and prescription reference before completing the sale. This information is saved to the Schedule H register automatically. For Schedule X (narcotic) drugs, additional fields and quantity validations are required per NDPS rules.
How does FIFO batch management work for drug purchases?
When you receive a drug purchase, each batch is registered with the batch number, manufacturer, manufacture date, and expiry date. When the drug is sold at POS, AskBooks automatically selects the batch with the earliest expiry date first (FIFO). If a batch nears expiry (within 30/60/90 days), an alert is sent to the store manager.
Can we handle purchase returns to suppliers?
Yes. Purchase returns are initiated from the purchase invoice. A return credit note is raised against the supplier with the quantity, batch, and GST details. The returned batch is removed from stock. ITC is reversed for the returned goods in your GST return. The supplier ledger is updated automatically.
How do we manage stock across multiple pharmacy outlets?
All outlets share a central stock database. Each outlet can see real-time stock levels at all other outlets. An inter-outlet transfer is initiated from the dashboard — source outlet issues a delivery challan, destination outlet receives and confirms. Stock is moved between outlet ledgers. GST on inter-state transfers between outlets is handled correctly.
