Set up your first company
Create a tenant, fill in legal details, and pick a financial year.
When you sign up for AskBooks, the first step is to create a company — what we call a tenant. A tenant is a fully isolated workspace: its data, users, and ledgers never leak into other tenants.
Step 1 — Open Settings → Organization After signing in, click **Settings → Organization**. Fill in the legal name, registered address, and PAN. If you are GST-registered, paste the 15-character GSTIN; AskBooks automatically pulls the legal name and state code from the GSTIN.
Step 2 — Choose your financial year India's standard FY runs April 1 to March 31. Some businesses (especially export-led ones) elect a calendar year. Pick the one that matches your books — this drives every report and tax filing in the system.
Step 3 — Set the books-from date The **books-from date** is when AskBooks starts tracking your data. If you are migrating from another tool, set this to the start of the FY and import opening balances. If you are brand-new, set it to today.
Step 4 — Verify your email and phone Go to **Settings → Profile** and confirm both. We send invoice receipts, GST reminders, and security alerts to these.
You are ready to invite teammates and start invoicing.
