Import existing data from Tally or Excel

Bring opening balances, parties, and items in bulk.

If you are migrating from Tally, Zoho, or a spreadsheet, AskBooks has a guided import.

Tally import Open **Settings → Data → Import from Tally**. Export your Tally backup as XML (Gateway → Export → Masters & Vouchers → XML). Drag-and-drop the file. We parse ledgers, groups, stock items, and vouchers and show a preview before committing.

Excel/CSV import For each entity (parties, items, invoices), download our template, fill it in, and upload. The validator flags row-level errors so you can fix and re-upload without partial commits.

Opening balances Use **Settings → Data → Opening balances** to post a single journal that brings every ledger to its opening figure as of your books-from date.

Always import into a sandbox tenant first if your data is large — that way you can verify the result without polluting production.
